Om Monirah

Monirah Hashemi is an Afghan-Swedish theater maker and performer based in Malmö, Sweden. Her work amplifies stories that are often silenced, overlooked, or denied the space to claim their existence. Drawing on lived experiences, Monirah blends storytelling, theater, song, and dance to weave myths with reality, creating spaces where these experiences can be expressed in their raw, poetic form.

Monirah's work invites audiences on a shared, collective journey to explore the emotional complexities of unacknowledged trauma and grief. Her work examines the possibilities of theater as a communal space for processing, reflection, and connection.

She is the co-founder of A Night with Buddha Festival, which commemorates the destruction of the Buddha statues of Bamiyan, Afghanistan, in 2001 by the Taliban.

Monirah studying her last year of the new international Master Programme in ‘Performing art as critical practice’ at Teaterhögskolan in Malmö. As the Stars Fall, is the culmination of two years of deepening, expanding and transforming her practice.
